    Description

    Offering a vintage and
museum-quality 1920's super rare WESTERN ELECTRIC MODEL 600A Carbon Suspension Microphone
. (Sometimes referred to as "closed ring microphone".) These very seldom come up for sale as this one...complete with the housing, and can usually only be seen in museums or high-end collections. This one has the brass casing which has oxidized to a proper dark color commensurate with its near 100 year age. The
600A Western Electric carbon element is in near mint condition
and even comes with the metal storage cup which usually go missing! All 8 original suspension springs are there along with the front and back casing covers, and i
t's original 3 conductor cloth insulated cable is intact
(The rear cover snaps on or off to access the cage internals.) This mic
has been well taken care of over the decades
and shows barely any sign of use or wear...even the original bottom felt is in top shape. The mic's diameter is 6" with a height of 8" and is quite weighty.
These carbon mics require an external power supply, so remains untested, and being sold for prop, display or collectible. (I wouldn't be surprised at all if it does function.)
NOTE: The final photo is a 1920's B&W archival promotional shot displaying this microphone.
