    Description

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome
    .
You are looking at a somewhat rare RCA 74B "Junior Velocity" ribbon microphone first manufactured in the early 1940's I believe and manufactured up until the mid to late 1950's. This was a quality, affordable studio mic that has a classic ribbon look and is quite large in size. The 74B was a more affordable ribbon mic offered by RCA compared to the more complex 77DX that was their flag ship model at that time.
I suspect that the ribbon was professionally replaced at some point in time because the mic sounds brand new with zero issues. Strong warm tone with good bass and will be perfect for any studio or recording purposes. I'm sure the cable was replaced when the mic was rebuilt. This mic should be good to use for several decades if properly stored.
The 74B is a fairly large microphone factory set at low impedance and is bi-directional whish is great for recording purposes where you want to pick up more background noise or multiple singers and broadcasters. The 74B came in either a black painted lower portion or brown lower portion though both had the polished chrome upper screens. This example comes in it's stock black paint and looks very nice. Far better than most that you'll come across being offered
There are just very lite scratches on the mic itself and some paint loss on the corners where it has rubbed over the decades. No dents or fractures. The front and rear grill are free of dents, tarnish or corrosion and the silk inner screens are free of any holes or rips. The RCA meatball logos shows looks excellent. I would rate the physical condition a true 8 on a scale of 1 - 10.
This mic is really going to pop anywhere it may be displayed or used. Would be excellent for a T.V series or movie.
The mic comes with the chrome lower joint swivel that works perfectly and has the AD-1 stand adapter so that you may mate this to any stand of choice. Swivel has lots of tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the mic in a 360 degree direction.
The mic has a short newer 6 foot cable. The cable is still soft and pliable with no damage. There is a newer Neutrik male XLR connector. Simply add any longer XLR cable if needed for extra length.
Again this mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have though I suggest using a very heavy stand so that this top heavy mic doesn't tip over easily.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
As with all my vintage microphones...
