Hello and welcome to The house of Chrome.
You are looking at one of the most famous and collectible Turner mics of all time. The Turner 33X with heavy deco influence and outrageous style that set it apart from every other microphone ever designed. The rarer 1940's 33X 1st generation series mic and it comes with the nice desk stand shown.
You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1940's Turner advertisement showing specs and priced on this mic.
The 33 series was first introduced in the 1940's and had a run of about 20 + years. The first generation 33 mics had a rounded lower pistol grip while the 2nd generation had the flat rectangular lower front pistol grip. Otherwise the microphone looked the same. The 33 series also came with either a crystal or dynamic element. The crystal elements were inferior and wore out over time while the dynamic elements sounded much better and tended to last over the decades.
This is the crystal version and sure enough the original element no longer works. This should be used for repair, display or prop purposes only.
As you can see the satin chrome finish is in pretty nice condition. There is a few scuffs, lite tarnish and scratches as seen in the pics. No dents, engravings or corrosion though. The satin chrome finish has a beautiful luster still and it will make for a nice display piece. The black cloth screen is perfect and the joint mechanism is flawless offering plenty of resistance to get the right angle needed and the threads for both the cable and stand are perfect.
The Turner badge looks very good and completely legible.
The overall finish of the mic I would give a very conservative 7 on a scale of 1 - 10.
MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The
stand is actually a newer Chinese model. It's a plastic and metal design with flat black paint that has a cool older deco vibe that compliments the mic nicely. The stand has that older deco flair with it's 5 tier "waterfall" base and all black paint scheme whish was very common in the 1930's and 40's.
The stand is basically brand new with very lite physical wear. The stand itself is appx 5 1/2 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide. There's enough weight in the stand to keep the mic from falling over no matter how low the mic is tilted.
Total height with mic and stand when mic is 10 1/4 inches tall.
