    Description

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome
    .
You are looking at one of the most unique and rare models of the Turner family of mics made over the years. This is the Turner dynamic "88" which was very similar to the 99 model dynamic microphone. The "88" was made for a few short years in the 1950's and comes complete with an original short cable and matching desk stand made specifically for the "88".
This microphone was 50% smaller than the Turner 99,999 and U9S. it was very similar in shape and has the lower yoke that allows the head to swivel up and down. The "88" had it's own specific lite grey paint scheme and even had the revolutionary Cannon XLR input for the cable. The XLR cable was a radical new design for the mic industry in the early 1950's and it took decades for this to become universal. The "88" was one of the first mics to incorporate this feature.
As seen in the pictures provided this old "88" has a great original finish with very lite wear. The paint has a couple tiny chips and scratches but is free of any dents or engravings however. The painted metal front screen looks fantastic and is free of any wear or dents. The Turner badge is in really nice shape and completely legible. Serial # 3578.
The Turner 88 was a well built, rugged mic that has done well holding up over the decades. This one has been tested and works like new. It has a strong clear tone that would be great for that "rockabilly" sound. If you are looking for something different to record with or use live this will certainly give you a distinct sound. The 99 was originally used for general broadcasting purposes and it's set at 250 OHMS.
The chrome thumbscrews on the yoke look real nice and the mic swivels just as it should. The cosmetic condition I would rate an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. The threads for the stand are perfect. Let the pictures be your guide please.
A vintage 6 foot cable is included to operate the mic. It's soft, pliable and has the older Cannon style connector. A male 1/4 inch end connector can be used with most modern audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The stand is a heavy cast iron model made specifically for the Turner 88 and even has the matching paint scheme. It's in excellent condition showing no wear and has a 3 inch chrome riser. This stand makes a very stable platform and really compliments the mic nicely. Total dimensions with mic and stand are 8 1/2 inches X 5 inches.
If you collect rare and beautiful turner mics...this example will not disappoint.
